It is officially fall, and Halloween is right around the corner (I know, I know, it’s only the beginning of October but still! It’s the same month!) In Florida we don’t really get the autumn weather, and that causes some people to not be in the fall mood. So here is a list of things you can do this month to build up to Halloween Ball! Grab a pumpkin spice latte, your favorite pair of UGGS and curl up, because it is time to get in the fall mood.
1. Go to a pumpkin patch!
There is nothing more fall-like than going to a pumpkin patch with a group of friends and picking out a couple of pumpkins to carve for the dorm! Grab some close friends and spend the day picking out and carving pumpkins while drinking some apple cider!
2. Ghost Tour
There are plenty of ghost tours in the area, whether you’re just wanting to go on a not-too-spooky walk in downtown St. Pete, or a “Did something just touch my arm!?” tour. Chances are there is something out there for you to enjoy. This could be a great date idea too, after all, what’s a better way to get to know someone than getting scared half to death with them?
3. Haunted Houses
It’s October! There are haunted houses open for business everywhere! Grab a few friends, or even talk to your RA about making it a dorm event and go get scared! Again, there are “haunted” houses for all levels of scaring!
4. Corn Mazes
I’m from the Midwest, so this is pretty much a staple back home. Corn Mazes are a huge deal, and there are some pretty decent ones in the area. Most attractions that offer corn mazes often have a pumpkin patch and hayrides available too, so why not make a day of it! One of the days when it may be just a little too chilly to hit the beach, pack up and go pretend you’re in the crisp fall air at home!
5. Howl-O-Scream
Howl-O-Scream is a theme for the Busch Garden’s amusement parks, and from what I’ve heard is pretty terrifying! It offers a live show, hundreds of “creatures” dressed-up, walking around the park, and lurking in the corners waiting to jump out at you, as well as dozens of creepy haunted houses. Busch Gardens also keeps the roller coasters up and running so you can get your screams from that too!
6. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Disney World’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! This is a not very scary Halloween party put on at Disney’s Magic Kingdom on select nights from 7-12! It offers trick-or-treating, characters dressed up in costumes, a specialized Halloween Themed Parade on Main Street, a light show hosted by the ghosts of the Haunted Mansion, a show by the villains in front of Cinderella’s Castle, and even more special attractions! If you’re a Disney addict and not looking to get too scared this is a great alternative or addition to your fall plans.
Hopefully these will help put you in the fall/Halloween mood! It’s coming up faster than you think, only 25 days until Halloween!!
