I just watched Stranger things last week after it had been out for almost a year, and I jumped on that wagon so quick you could have hardly seen me go! Last summer, my dad watched it (he watches everything at least 2 weeks before it’s popular, right now he’s on the Santa Clara Diet on Netflix), and he told me that I should watch it because it’s right up my alley. Of course, I didn’t listen.
He told me (and this is probably about the best way that I can describe it) the show is like The Goonies (great movie) meets X-Files (great show). I think it’s almost like Super 8, which I saw in theatres a lot when it first came out. Super 8 was about these kids in the 70s who stumbled across this alien that escaped a military train.Ā Basically, if you’re into anything even remotely sci-fi or dramatic, you’ll love this show.
Stranger Things is really about this group of kids (young and teen) who are trying to figure themselves out in relation to everyone else in the tiny town. The younger boys want to save their best friend from something I won’t name because spoilers, and the older boys want to get a girlfriend while the older generation of the town (parents) are concerned about everything that their children are doing. Stranger ThingsĀ really has something for everyone.
I could spend a long time raving about this show because it is just so awesome. I think the writing is fantastic, and it tackles some problems that kids in real life are facing (disabilities, race, gender stereotypes) in addition to simply just making me outright laugh. I think this is really good for society right now considering the current state that it is in.Ā The directing is so good that in some of the shots in the middle episodes, I caught myself saying, “NICE!” to the TV like it could actually hear me.
If you have the time, I would definitely reccomend this show for you and don’t worry because the next season of the show will be coming out this Halloween: season two!
