My Reaction to American Horror Story Season 6

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED YET.

I have been obsessed with AHS since season one with the murder house. I even stuck through Freak Show when everyone gave up on it midway through the season. When I watch all the episodes everyone knows that there is no moving or talking, my attention is completely on the show with no distractions.

Today though I finally got the answer to the question I have been waiting to hear ever since Hotel ended…What the season’s theme was going to be! Season six has been announced and it is “My Roanoke Nightmare.” From watching the first episode this is what we know so far. It is present day North Carolina and is shown as a documentary. It flashes between a couple exampling their story while actors act out what they are saying. As soon as they moved into the house they begin to be terrorized by men with pitchforks and fire. So far, we are believed to think it was the men in the beginning of the episode that they out bidded for the house. Maybe it’s the last colony of Roanoke? The episode ends with the wife driving off scared and hits a woman. She runs after the woman that she hit in the woods and finds herself lost. Finally, the episode ends with her finding what I believe are the people of the lost colony. Definitely leaving us hanging to wait for next Wednesday.

I am not a fan of the documentary style. It just reminds me of shows like “Who the bleep did I just marry?” Where people tell their story and then have horrible actors replay the situation. Since they have the replay it just does not make it seem as real as it could. And since the season is called “My Roanoke Nightmare” it scares me that every few episodes they switch stories and show other people that have moved into the house and their story. It also is annoying when it is a play back that you know they live to tell the tale. Not to say that I want people to die, but it is nice to worry about their lives. It takes away from the adventure and suspense when you know that they will live through it, which is lame.

From the previews, though, that have been circling around I am definitely hopeful that this season is going to be good. One of the previews showed a baby cradle, which brings back the 1st season. They also mention earlier in the episode one of the reasons why the couple moved to North Carolina was due to a miscarriage. Maybe a baby creature is making it back to this season? I just really hope that they either go back and forth with the present and past so I do not have to watch the documentary. But, if it is like that all season I guess I will have to learn to live. This first episode though definitely lived up to its expectation of keeping me on the edge of my seat and having my hands over my face scared of what was going to happen next.

I am a sophomore at East Carolina University. I am from New Jersey so I'm just a northern girl trying to make it in a city that says ya'll instead of you guys.
