There are some days where just waking up, starts the day off wrong. Maybe it’s gloomy outside or maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed but for some reason, it’s not your day. On these bad days, it is common to want to do nothing more than lay in bed and watch something on the T.V. or on your phone. Nothing makes a bad day worse than watching something that ends up being upsetting or irritating. So how do you make the bad day better? Well as the saying goes, ‘laughter is the best medicine’, and on bad days sometimes watching a funny movie can be the perfect way to make the bad day better.
Obviously, when discussing comedies there are a few “kings of comedy” that have to be discussed, at least in my opinion. Personally, Jim Carrey and Robin William are always comedy wins; however, Robin Williams has also had a few very sad movies so be sure to double-check that the one you choose, is a comedy. Adam Sandler is also high up on my list but some people do not enjoy his comedy so be aware of that. Comedy as a whole has to have more storyline than jokes so some have a sad plot, and some have a sappy romantic plot, but nonetheless they will make you laugh.
Jim Carrey’s movies:
-
Liar Liar
This movie is one of my personal favorites from Jim Carrey. I would watch this movie all the time with my family and found all of Jim Carrey’s facial expressions and verbal attempts to lie funny enough to make me laugh no matter how many times I had seen them. The story has a bit of a sad plot throughout while Jim Carrey’s character Fletcher Reede tries to connect with his son, Max, and stop his ex-wife from moving away with Max. However, there are a lot of subtle jokes and funny expressions.
-
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
This movie circles around Jim Carrey’s wacky-weird personality and allows him to use it to its full power. The main character Ace Ventura has mannerisms exactly like Jim Carrey, and this results in hilarious incidents as Ace tries to solve the mystery of a missing dolphin. The movie always has me laughing at the faces Jim Carrey makes, and the jokes he makes, while doing his detective work. His quick one-liners are easily memorable and will make you giggle to yourself if one pops into your head.
Robin Williams’ Movies:
-
Mrs. Doubtfire
This movie shows a lot of Robin Williams’ voice acting ability and really pushes it far and beyond with how many voices he has to make and how much they have to differentiate from one another. The movie has a bit of a sad plot as Robin Williams’ character Daniel Hillard has to dress up in a disguise to see his kids after his ex-wife revokes his custody. However, Robin Williams is able to make the sad plot lighthearted with his jokes and voice acting skills.
-
Jumanji
Jumanji is a classic and has even been remade, the remake was even given a sequel; however, the classics are always superior and this movie is evidence of that. Robin Williams’ works his character, Alan Parrish, easily and throughout the action, the plot has a hint of romance underneath. The movie has it’s moments when it comes to funny but one thing for sure is the movie has constant riveting action.
Adam Sandler’s Movies:
-
Grown-ups
This movie is very silly and very family-oriented. The jokes are of typical Adam Sandlar style but they are mellowed out because of the other actors in the movie. The overall feeling of the movie is family love and friendship. There are many funny jokes within it that make you finish the movie with a homey feeling and make you think about all the inside jokes you have with your family.
-
Happy Gilmore
This movie is really a good preview of how a lot of Adam Sandler movies are. Adam Sandler’s movies have jokes that borderline on potty humor, some more than others, and his movies focus on overcoming struggles and hard times. Now that doesn’t mean there isn’t humor because there is a lot. The simplicity of the jokes makes them just a little bit funnier.
Overall these movies are a wonderful way to put a little laughter into most gloomy days.
