Name: Hannah Silvers
Age: 20
Year:Â Junior
Hometown: Douglasville, GA
Major: English (Professional Writing & Rhetoric, Creative Writing)
Campus involvement: I’m the copy chief of The Pendulum student newspaper, a consultant at the Writing Center, and a member of the nonfiction reading team for Colonnades literary magazine. I would do other things if I hadn’t already sold my soul to The Pendulum.
Favorite ice cream flavor: I’ll never turn down a good Southern butter pecan.
Favorite food: …Pizza, obviously.
Favorite song: I have to pick just one? Probably “I Am The Best” by 2NE1.
Go-to outfit: Almost any day of the week, I’m in distressed jeans, a T-shirt, a flannel, and either Vans or Dr. Marten’s. My goal when getting dressed in the morning is to trick myself into thinking I’m still in bed all day.
Most embarrassing moment: I don’t get embarrassed that easily, though I do remember once I blushed so hard I thought my face would fall off. One of my friends saw a girl I was hanging out with playing the trumpet in the university band. Since she’d never mentioned it to me, I thought it would be funny to tell her I’d found out she played the trumpet — not ask her if she did, tell her she did, and then not tell her how I got that information. Turns out my friend was mistaken, the girl has never played the trumpet, and she thought it was an innuendo. IT took us a good 20 minutes to resolve the miscommunication. It was bad.
Best cheesy joke: How do you know there’s an elephant in your fridge? You’ll see his footsteps in the butter.
Guilty pleasure: Any time of the day or night: green apples and peanut butter.
Dream job: I would give up green apples and peanut butter to be the lady who answers “Ask the Editor” questions sent to the Chicago Manual of Style blog or the Associated Press Stylebook blog.Â
Three favorite words in the English language:Â 1) Never 2) give 3) up.
Favorite quote: “Any moment before the end might be the important one. This I believe.” Agatha Christie
Hidden talent:Â I cook a perfect pot of grits every time.
