Handcrafted Art for Sale – Senior Sophie Rupp

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Elon University senior Sophie Rupp has stepped out of her comfort zone and began selling the art she’s always loved to make.

Sophie admits she’s always loved crafting, but while she was living alone at Elon this summer, she had more time to explore her hobby of drawing mandalas and other designs and eventually started selling them.

When she started posting her designs on Facebook and Instagram, her friends, family and even some strangers asked if they could buy a piece or request designs of their own. Since Sophie started selling her art, she’s sold 15 pieces in total and is currently working on a few more.

The name of her company, No Short Supply, has a special meaning for Sophie.

“It’s a play on words because I’m really short, and also coming back from abroad I realized there is no short supply of things I can add to the world,” she said.

Sophie said her time in Seville, Spain inspired her mandala designs.

“When I was there, I just kept taking close up pictures of the tiles, which kind of kick started it,” Sophie said.

In Seville, Sophie had to speak a foreign language and get out of her comfort zone, which encouraged her to start selling her art. Before being abroad, she thought no one would want to buy her art because she doesn’t have formal training, but after pushing herself abroad, she decided to continue to pursue her goals when she returned to Elon.

Besides Instagram and Facebook, Sophie also created a website to continue to sell her work. To see more of Sophie’s art, visit her site.
