As a little girl my mother always told me that beauty comes in all shapes, forms, sizes and colors. This was embedded into my brain and I never thought twice about it. That is until I realized that while beauty comes in all these different forms, the fashion and beauty industry isn’t doing enough to accommodate for all the beautiful women in society.

“It’s really hard to find concealer and foundation in places like Sephora and Ulta,” said first year African-American student Carri Leigh. “Palettes can also be tricky a lot of the times because I am into the brown shades and not the pink tones for my complexion.”

While not all drugstore and high end brands cater to the beauty needs of darker complexions, celebrities do. Celebs like Rihanna, Queen Latifah, Kylie Jenner and more are leading the beauty industry to serve women of all skin tones.

Here are examples of the best products for colored beauty, many brought to you by your favorite celebrities!

  1. Rihanna’s Cosmetic Line, Fenty Beauty

Fenty Beauty Line features many different products, some seen here. The cruelty-free collection has been selling out since Rihanna launched it online and in Sephora and Harvey Nichols stores Sept. 7 across 17 countries.

Rihanna spent two years developing her line in order to cater specifically to skin tones similar to her own darker complexion. She wanted to make an impact on the beauty industry not only with some amazing highlighting sticks and pretty packaging, but saying that every color deserves to shine. She said that she wanted something “sweat proof but lifeproof,” meaning it could be used for all occasions. The darker shades sold out the fastest, challenging some preconceived notions.

2) Queen Latifah’s Covergirl Queen Collection

Every woman is a queen according to Queen Latifah. This is what inspired her cosmetic line partnered with Covergirl. Queen Latifah chose seven girls aggravated with drugstore brands not being inclusive enough and made them part of her campaign. No airbrushed celebrities for her ads. Rather, real colored women who are happy to be represented the way they should be.

3) Kylie cosmetics

Kylie Jenner may be all over the news for boyfriend drama, pregnancy and her dramatic AF family, but she also deserves some credit for her lip line. Within a year’s time, Kylie has rose to the top of the Kardashian business empire. She has her own makeup line, own show and is always thinking up something new. Her line of Kyle cosmetics is not only SO CUTE, but it caters to all women of all colors with a wide range of colors and shades. One personal favorite is Brown Sugar.

4) Angela Bassett’s Skin of Color Enzyme Cleanser

We can’t forget about skin care! Angela Bassett paired with dermatologists to launch a skincare line for black women. The enzyme cleanser is one of the most popular products because it utilizes Vitamin C to help combat hyperpigmentation and excess oil present in darker skin.
