Between class, work, friends, family and dealing with life on a daily basis, it’s hard to find time to relax and reflect on how you’re doing. There are many variations of “Things I wish I knew when I was a young adult” lists but they’re all in the past tense. It’s time to look at the bigger picture – what’s happening right now – with the following 10 items as your guide:
1. Love the body that you’re in.
2. Appreciate your support system (i.e. parents, friends, professors, mentors, etc.).
3. Stop worrying about what other people think about you.
4. Respect yourself. Know your boundaries and be confident sticking to them.
5. Do something outside of your comfort zone every day.
6. Be fiscally responsible.
7. Work on your networking skills.
8. Learn from your mistakes. Don’t get defensive, take the lesson and move on.
9. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
10. Be kind to yourself: do the very best you can everyday and take pride in your effort.
