Back Bay Yoga
364 Boylston St. Boston, MA 02116
BBY is a great place to start if you’ve never done yoga before. With their New Member Membership of only $25 for two weeks of UNLIMITED yoga classes you can really explore your interests, whether its Vinyasa flow or core, Forrest yoga, ropes and alignments, Hatha yoga…the list goes on. With only a seven minute walk from Emerson, this is a definite choice for both the beginner and experienced yogi. I recommend any Ame Wren Vinyasa flow class, you’ll be drenched in sweat by the end but also revitalized. BBY also holds numerous workshops with internationally and nationally renown yoga instructors every once in a while, as well meditation workshops and an upcoming Acroyoga workshop in October.
Health Yoga Life
12 Temple St. Boston, MA 02114
Nestled in Beacon Hill, HYL is also a great place to start as a beginning yogi. Their classes are all levels as well as heated, which can be a little grueling sometimes. If you’re not into that check out their Freestyle ‘n Flow class which “consists of gentle yoga movements, invigorating breathing and restorative meditation.” The studio is small compared to BBY, but the atmosphere is great and the owners are always smiling, happy to answer any questions and help you feel welcomed. If you find their business card (I found theirs posted in the Beacon Hill JP Licks) you can attend a free class when you present it!
South Boston Yoga
36 W Broadway, Boston MA 02127
Just a short ride on the red line to the Broadway T Stop is South Boston Yoga. South Boston Yoga offers a wide range of classes, and their schedule is really great for those who only have time for nighttime yoga. SBY offers Pilates as well, which is a great alternative to traditional yoga. SBY offers aerial/swing yoga which uses “the support and enhancement of the silk swings.” Your first SBY class is free, and they also utilize the $25 New Member special for two weeks of unlimited yoga.
North End Yoga
256 Hanover St. Boston, MA 02113
North End Yoga has a great deal of 30 days for $30 that include all classes except Mysore and evening Pilates. They offer Vinyasa per tutti which is an all-levels class, as well as Mysore practices, Pilates and what they call Pilates fusion which is a “unique blend of traditional mat Pilates, ballet toning exercise and core shaping movements.” I definitely recommend a high-energy class such as that if normal Vinyasa get you bored easily.
Namaste!
