It’s a girl, it’s a lion—it’s Lexie St. Jacques! I chatted with Emerson’s mascot about life as Griff, superheroes, future plans, and much more.
Name: Lexie St. Jacques
Year of Graduation: 2018
Major: VMA
Hometown: Attleboro, MA
What’s it like being Emerson’s mascot, Griff the Lion? It’s very furry. It’s very rewarding and interesting in a way that it’s almost strange, because upperclassmen don’t know that it’s this “new freshman.” A lot of them guess that it’s their friend, but I really don’t know them at all. It’s also rewarding because I love Emerson so much— to be the lion is a big deal for me.
So, are you new to mascoting or is this something you’ve done before? I was my high school mascot, so I was Lucky the Leprechaun my senior year, and then I worked over the summer as Paws and Sox, who were the mascots for the Boston Red Sox minor league equivalent, the Pawtucket Red Sox.
So I know you’re really into superheroes. Which one is your favorite? Iron Man is my favorite. He’s very “lion hearted” and courageous. Captain America is a close second.
What is your dream job? My dream job is to be a producer for either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the CW Television Network. Both the MCU and CW feature one of my favorite things: people in costumes being super.
Can you tell me about your experience with Sweet Tooth Animation? At Sweet Tooth Animation, we begin with screenings of different animated shorts or clips and then we do weekly tutorials on different aspects of animation such as hand drawn 2D animation, rotoscoping, and Maya, which is a program for animating in 3D. So every week is fun on top of more fun in my opinion! And there’s candy at every meeting.
What is your favorite TV show? Right now, my favorite TV show is kind of split between Supernatural and Parks and Recreation. Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 10PM on the CW and Parks and Recreation is also Tuesday nights on NBC.
Favorite movie? My favorite movie has to be Odd Thomas, which is an independent film based on the book by Dean Koontz.
Favorite spot on campus? My common room. That probably sounds cheesy, but it’s my favorite spot because that is where all my friends usually gather.
Where was Griff the Lion last spotted? I was last seen at the Sigma Pi Theta sorority recruitment event where I was actually invited afterwards to attend more recruitment events to eventually become a member. Unfortunately, my schedule will not allow it this semester because I am very busy working on another capstone project.
What music gets Griff dancing? Well, this incarnation of Griff loves classic rock and Taylor Swift, although Griff is a fan of all types of music, from Bastille to Eminem and Idina Menzel.
