*In celebration of the organizations who work day-in and day-out to help and protect those in need, Her Campus Emerson has decided to dedicate all of our content this week to organizations that are important to us.
Hannah Shaw, also known as the Kitten Lady, has been fostering neonatal kittens for years. She teaches workshops to educate people across the nation on the struggles for neonatal kittens and the ways people can help. Besides her website and workshops, she also teaches people about kitten care through her YouTube channel. On top of that, Shaw also does TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) in her community for community cats. Shaw also announced a book deal this past year. If that’s not drive, I don’t know what is.
Let’s be real, kittens are extremely adorable. But the chances of orphaned neonatal kittens surviving are slim unless people in communities help their local shelters. Neonatal kittens need to be fed every few hours by bottle or syringe their first few weeks of life and need to be stimulated to urinate and defecate, and it is rare that animal shelters have the resources to take care of these kittens, so they may be euthanized. That’s why these kittens’ survival  relies on foster parents. According to Orphan Kitten Club’s website, Shaw and her team are working toward ending the killing of neonatal kittens “by rescuing individual orphans in need, providing hands-on care to save their lives, and preparing them for adoption into loving homes. Orphan Kitten Club offers around-the-clock feeding, expert medical care, and a warm, safe haven to neonatal, injured, and special needs kittens.”
