In a television world dominated by glossy sitcoms and flashy, graphics-heavy dramas, Lena Dunham’s Girls provides an intimate look at the lives of four young women living in New York City. The four main characters each have their own distinct style, so us girls over at HerCampus Emerson put together some looks based on each character.
Hannah Horvath
Played by the show’s director and creator, Lena Dunham, Hannah values comfort above anything, but also tries (and sometimes fails) to look professional. Living in the city, comfortable shoes are essential, as well as a multi-purpose army-inspired jacket and a large bag to carry everything a budding writer might need.
Marnie Michaels
Marnie is Hannah’s best friend, played by news anchor Brian Williams’ gorgeous daughter Allison Williams. As a former assistant in at art gallery and an aspiring curator, Marnie’s look is polished and simple. A navy blue jersey knit dress paired with a nude heel and emerald bag make for Marnie’s perfect ensemble.
Shoshannah Shapiro
Shoshannah, a college student still living under the wing of her parents’ money, is the essence of sugar, spice and everything nice. Innocent and sweet, Shoshannah’s ensemble pairs a white mini skirt with mint booties, studded bow earrings, and a Chanel clutch.
Jessa Johansson
Jessa is Shoshannah’s British-bohemian cousin who has a distinct personal style. Maxi-skirts and floppy hats as well as oversized boyfriend blazers and lots of bohemian-inspired jewelry are often seen on Jessa, and the Union Jack bag gives the outfit a touch of her homeland.
