The 2016 election seems to be all anyone is talking about these days, especially on social media. Whether you’re feeling the Bern, a staunch Hillary supporter or even favoring one of the less problematic Republican candidates, I respect that you have taken a stance and are making yourself active in our future. However, there’s one candidate that I simply can’t get behind, and not only can I not get behind him, I can’t get behind you if you support him.
You may be a great person, a nice human being and a worthwhile friend outside of your political views, but if you support Donald Trump, I simply don’t want to converse with you.
I know that sounds harsh, but the longer this circus show goes on, the more I feel the need to be harsh. He was funny in the beginning; I’ll admit to laughing at some of the things he’s come out with because they are just so ridiculous. But as time goes on, he doesn’t seem funny anymore. He seems dangerous. And more than dangerousÂ, he’s flat out racist, sexist and inflammatory.
When someone is this bombastic and makes such offensive statements more often than he offers actual solutions to problems facing our country, I can no longer separate his policies from his personal views. Subsequently, when I see his supporters, I can only equate them with the views he puts on display so frequently, which are almost always insulting.
To put it plainly: if you support Donald Trump–and even if you only support his solely political stances (i.e. the wall between us and Mexico, or barring Muslims from the US)–I don’t want to be friends with you. More than that, I don’t want anything to do with you. His views, both political and personal, would hurt so many people, and to support someone like that means that you would support hurting those people. There’s no way to get around this.
When it comes time to vote, please make sure you know who you’re voting for. Do research on your candidate and make sure that their political views fall in line with your own beliefs. And please, if you care about the future of this country and more importantly, the people in it, consider another candidate.Â
