15 Songs For Your Fall 2016 Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

Here is a playlist of songs that define this fall season, and some additional songs that you may not know but should definitely check out!

1. “River” by Bishop Briggs

If you haven’t already heard this song, it is definitely worth looking up! This is the up-and-coming artist’s second single, showing a lot of promise to fans of alternative songs.

2. “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars

Anyone who really likes the Motown feel of Bruno Mars’ new music will respect this song as much as I do. Also, it will make you nostalgic of 80’s pop songs.

3. “Electric Lady” by Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae is pretty outspoken when it comes to feminism, and this song is another example of it. Also, it’s good song to jam out to, so that’s always a plus.

4. “Reach Out” by Joanna Teters & Mad Satta

Although this band may not be well known, once you hear this song you’ll want to take a page from singer Joanna Teters’ book and breathe in the fall air.

5. “My Body” by Young the Giant

Debuting in 2010, this was the alternative rock band’s first single. If you are a fan of this song, be sure to check out Young the Giant’s third studio album Home of the Strange, released in August of this year.

6. “Been to the Moon” by Corinne Bailey Rae

This single from The Heart Speaks in Whispers is far different from Corinne Bailey Rae’s usual sound. At the same time, it will give your playlist a well-needed Erykah Badu-like edge.

7. “Sorry” by BeyoncĂ©

How can you make any playlist without a little BeyoncĂ©? This song will have you saying “boy, bye”, even if you don’t have an S.O. this fall.

8. “Shaolin Monk Motherfunk” by Hiatus Kaiyote

It’s a mouthful, but it’s so worth it! Hiatus Kaiyote is a seriously impressive band from Australia that combines R&B, electronic, and alternative styles of music. In other words, this is a really cool band that everyone should listen to.

9. “Heathens” by Twenty-One Pilots

Off the Suicide Squad album, this song has been making waves this season. Its popularity has to earn a spot on your fall playlist.

10. “The Truth” by Moonchild

Another band you might not hear on the radio, since it deviates so much from the typically pop sound in all the right ways, is Moonchild. “The Truth” is a great song for long drives or a chill night in.

11. “Cold Water” by Major Lazer, ft. Justin Bieber

Love him or hate him, you have to admit that Justin Bieber is making a comeback. This song is yet another example of his catchy new material.

12. “Cry, Die, Fly” by Drew ofthe Drew

Yes, that is Joanna Teters of Mad Satta. She sang as a member of Drew ofthe Drew before forming Mad Satta later in her music career. This song has more of an alternative rock sound, revealing that Joanna can absolutely do both, and sound amazing in the process.

13. “BYIMM” by Emily King

For any Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fans out there, you will be happy to know that Tituss Burgess is featured in this music video! Even though this song sounds easy-going, it has a sassy edge, which Tituss definitely delivers.

14. “Your Eyes” by Allen Stone

Crazy enough, the reason why you may not know Allen Stone’s name is because Adam Levine tried to sign him to his label, but Allen declined. Even though he likes to keep a low profile, he deserves to be recognized for his amazing musical talent, and has been steadily gaining popularity ever since.

15. “Closer” by The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey

Whether you’re still jamming to it or have grown to hate it, you have to admit that this song defines fall 2016. I guess if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

Hopefully you gained some inspiration for your growing playlist! Happy listening!
