What a weekend! Three days off and all I want is more. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I spent half my time in sweats watching some of my favorite chick flicks and I thought I would share them with you!
1. A Cinderella Story
Possibly my favorite rendition of the classic, Hilary Duff plays the diner girl who falls in love with the handsome quarterback played by Chad Michael Murray. This movie is basically all that I aspired to when I was in high school and it is definitely one of those movies that never gets old. A Cinderella Story is the pick for you if you want fairytales, annoying families, and a classic teenage romance!
2. The Princess Diaries 1 and 2
Who doesn’t want to be a princess? A definite must in the chick flick world, Anne Hathaway plays Mia Thermopolis, an average teenager who finds out she is a princess. Her grandmother is played by Julie Andrews who is an actual queen in reality. The two movies go through Mia’s life transitioning into her new role, finding connection with her grandmother, and also finding very attractive men in her life! The Princess Diaries movies is one of those feel-good movies you can always keep watching.
3. She’s the Man
If you haven’t seen this movie, I am so sorry. Amanda Bynes dresses up as her brother in order to play soccer when her team is disbanded. Disguised as a boy, she learns how to play soccer and also meets the swoon-worthy Channing Tatum. The movie is filled with hilarious moments and perfect one-liners that will cause this movie to be your new favorite.
4. When in Rome
This movie is one of my favorites to introduce to people because it is not very well known. In this quirky film, Kristen Bell has some serious guy troubles when she accidentally makes a few men fall in love with her by stealing coins from Aphrodite’s fountain. This movie is hilarious because the men are all such characters (including her in-real life husband Dax Shepard). Josh Duhamel also plays the major love interest and makes all of the cringe-worthy moments worth watching. I know I may not be selling this movie to you, but honestly, watch it. You will not regret it later.
5. The Wedding Date
This movie is a bit underrated but if you like movies about weddings, then this one is for you! In the film, Kat hires a male escort to be her date to her sister’s wedding so she doesn’t have to face her parents and ex-boyfriend alone. Eventually Kat and the male escort end up falling in love (as they always do in these movies). The Wedding Date is one of those genuine movies you can’t help falling in love with.
6. Pretty Woman
Filled with iconic scenes and some romance to boot, this movie is a classic and you all need to watch it.
7. This Means War
This movie is not very well known but it is an excellent movie with a great cast. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy, this movie is about two spies (and friends) who are going after the same girl. I am definitely Team Chris in this movie, but you will have to watch it to see who you root for! Definitely an all time favorite of mine and you will need to put it on your watchlist!
8. Sex in the City
Some may say Sex in the City is beyond us in our college years, but I beg to differ. The women in this movie (and the show on Amazon Prime and/or HBO GO) are hilarious and realistic. Carrie Bradshaw gets left at the altar by Big (yes that is his name) and she goes on their honeymoon with her friends. It is definitely a girl-bonding movie!
9. Miss Congeniality
Also another classic movie that empowers young women to be bad*sses. Sandra Bullock is legit goals in this movie and I aspire to be her whenever I watch it.
10. 27 Dresses
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. I have no words to explain this movie except you’ll hate the sister, dream of James Marsden, and be shocked by how ugly some of the dresses are.
11. Leap Year
In this movie, Anna (played by Amy Adams) goes to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend (because he genuinely sucks in the romantic department). Nothing goes as planned and she ends up across the country with a devilishly-handsome Irish man named Declan. The movie is definitely a fun movie to sit back and relax to!
12. Me Before You
A movie to cry your eyes out for. Emilia Clarke (Khaleesi and Mother of Dragons in Game of Thrones) stars with Sam Claflin (Finnick from The Hunger Games) who is recently-paralyzed from the neck down. The film is so sweet and you grow so attached to the characters. I definitely recommend the movie, but if you are willing, read the book too. I can’t say anything bad about this movie even though it makes me feel all the feels.
13. Legally Blonde
This movie needs no introduction. It is a classic and a must on ALL chick flick lists because Elle Woods is an icon. No discussion on the matter. The movie is amazing.
14. Letters to Juliet
Also not well known, this movie I find very adorable. You have the main character played by Amanda Seyfried who you watch on her romantic journey, but you also follow the love story of an elderly woman trying to find her long-lost lover. The movie is sweet and sentimental and I highly recommend it to anyone who will take my advice.
15. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
This movie is spectacular. Kate Hudson plays a character who is writing an article about how to scare away a guy when in a relationship. Her guinea pig for the article is played by none other than Matthew McConaughey. The whole movie is full of cringe-worthy but hilarious moments and is a definite go-to movie.
16. Made of Honor
Patrick Dempsey…need I say more?
17. The Proposal
Hilarious and quirky, The Proposal stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds who get stuck in a fake engagement when Sandra Bullock’s character does not want to be deported to Canada. The film also stars the amazing Betty White and she has an amazing scene at the bachelorette party. Need I say more?
18. P.S. I Love You
In the mood for an amazing tearjerker that makes you love a couple but then rips your heart out? This is the movie for you then. I am not going to spoil anything for you and I think you should just watch it. If you do not like going in blind, then I suggest watching the trailer. I cry more for this movie than I do for The Notebook.
19. The Notebook
Speaking of which… I don’t know one person who has not seen this movie of everlasting love and how it can face anything. Couple little fun facts from IMDb: Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling hated each other at the beginning of filming but ended up being a couple in real life! Second fun fact, the director of the film picked Ryan Gosling due to him not being well-known or handsome….yeah right. The Notebook is one of those movies that never gets old.
20. 13 Going on 30
Lastly (but definitely not least) is 13 Going on 30. I don’t know what it is about this movie but I think it is an ultimate chick flick. It’s fun, quirky, romantic, and just a well-rounded movie. A thirteen year old girl wishes to become her thirty year old self and she finds that some things are great while other aspects are not what she expected. It is definitely a cute movie about finding out what is important to you. The film is one of my absolute favorites and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
