3 Songs That Make Me Feel Like I Am The Main Character

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

Recently, I have been listening to music more than ever. It has become a part of my daily routine to put in my AirPods and aimlessly walk around the city. A city walk while music is playing is without a doubt, a main character moment. A main character moment can be defined as feeling like you are the protagonist in your life’s story, as well as taking control of your life and putting yourself first. I firmly believe the songs you listen to play a big role in what defines “a main character moment.” For this week’s article, I have decided to write about three songs that make me feel like I am the main character.

“Buttons” by The Pussycat Dolls

This prime 2000’s hit makes my inner girl boss come out. The beat and the tempo of “Buttons”

emerges a different persona of me; she is confident and fierce! Additionally, I feel like I can conquer the world when this song comes on, I tend to shut out everyone else in the world. I am definitely guilty for strutting down the street to this song and ignoring everyone.

“Pluto Projector” by Rex Orange County

This song emits a major sad main character moment. If there’s any inconvenience in my life, I play this song and I go completely into my miserable and sad feelings. The specific part of this song that makes me feel like I am carrying the weight of the world is the violin symphony part towards the end. Regardless, “Pluto Projector” is a fantastic song. This song gives me the same energy as looking out at the window on a rainy, gloomy day. Although it radiates sad energy, sometimes those songs are needed in life.

“Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

My third and final song is one of my favorite songs ever. This song radiates the energy of a coming of age moment. “Home” has upbeat parts and in contrast, slow parts which I think reflects the highs and lows of life. If I had a movie of my life, this song would definitely play at the end of the movie as I am running into the sunset.

Regardless of what songs you listen to, you are the main character! The music “playing” in our lives is simply a soundtrack to what we endure and overcome.
