6 Reasons Why Being Newly Single Is The Best Thing Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

Breakups are awful, there’s no doubt about it. But they’re not all that bad. There are actually WAY more pros to being newly single than you’d think. Here are six reasons why being newly single is the greatest thing in the world.

1. You can spend more time with your friends.

Ever notice that when you get a bf/gf, you naturally spend less time with your friends? Not anymore. Enjoy your newfound time and spend it with your favorite people! Maybe you guys can finally go to that new store or restaurant you’ve been dying to try out.

2. You can watch whatever movie you want to 100% of the time.

You know that new movie that Netflix recently added that you’ve had your eye on, go watch it! Forget agreeing on the movie, you can finally choose whichever movie you want to watch and not have to compromise! And odds are, your best friend wants to see it with you.

3. You can try out a new style!

Breakups can suck, but they’re the best time to reinvent yourself! Whether you decide to get a dramatic new haircut or color, or maybe decide to finally get that tattoo you’ve wanted for a while, now is the ideal time.

4. You can flirt!

Now that you’re single, you can ask that cute freshman for his number, or go on Tinder dates with guys/girls who seem pretty cool. Play the field and what other great guys/girls are out there.

5. You can treat yo self!

Being in a relationship can be expensive. Things like dates and gifts can really add up after a while. Now that you’re single, you can use that money to take yourself out on dates and buy gifts for yourself. You SO deserve that new book that just came out or the dress that looks adorable in the store window.

6. You can work on you, for you.

Finally, you don’t have to take care of someone else or place anyone else’s needs above your own. This period of your life, no matter how big or small, is about making yourself into that person that you’ve always wanted to be. So go apply for that internship, join a new club (maybe Her Campus, wink wink), go to a workout class, or enroll in an art class. Do whatever it takes to become the best version of yourself. Isn’t that what being single is all about?

The period right after a break up can suck, but why not see the positive side?
