Adidas’s fabulous Valentine’s Day Instagram post featuring a same-sex female couple seems to be drumming up quite the discussion. The caption reads “The love you take is equal to the love you make.” Simple, sporty, cute, right?

You may only be able to see the women’s legs, but the recognizable pose of standing on one’s toes for a kiss or embrace implies they are indeed supposed to represent a couple. The photo now has over 262k likes and 146k comments, and even Ellen Degeneres proudly reposted the image on her own Instagram.
Of course some of the comments were harsh and outdated – they’re not even worth mentioning. Adidas was quick to reply to those hateful comments by stating, “No, this day is for LOVE. Happy Valentine’s Day (kiss emoji)” This is a beautiful advertisement that overall received a lot of respect and appreciation. Users also commented things such as “Love is love, thank you for supporting!” and “Another reason to love Adidas :)”

According to Buzzfeed, Adidas also recently announced that they added a new clause into its contracts for athletes that states sponsorship won’t be affected if they announce they’re gay, bi, or trans.
I’d say this a huge step in the right direction, props to you Adidas!
