With the semester quickly coming to a close and commencement approaching, Her Campus Emmanuel will sadly be saying goodbye to two of our Executive Board members. I had the chance to sit down with our current Vice President, Kathleen Grey, and discuss her college experience and her plans moving forward.
Her Campus at Emmanuel: Hi, Kathleen! Thank you so much for sitting down with me today! I know commencement is coming up shortly. What degree will you be graduating with?
Kathleen Grey: English Communications and Media Studies with a Minor in Religious Studies.
HCE: That’s great! Do you have a dream job?
KG: I do. I would say it’s to run a big fashion house.
HCE: What would you do there?
KG: Basically be the Creative Director. Kind of be the eyes and ears of the company. Whether it’s Vogue or Chanel, I think it would be awesome and full of creative outlets for me.
HCE: I’m sure a lot of people have been asking you, but do you have any plans for after you graduate?
KG: My plan is to work hard, and pursue my dreams. I don’t have a job officially, but I’m definitely on the track to getting one in my field. I just want to continue doing what I love.
HCE: If you could go back to the beginning of your college experience, what advice would you give yourself?
KG: Oh gosh, that’s a great question! What would I tell myself? I would tell myself to not worry so much, to be myself, and to never give up.
HCE: That’s really good advice. What has been your favorite part about your college experience, or what are some of your most memorable moments?
KG: I would say my favorite part about my college experience is the friends I’ve made and the laughs I’ve had. The last four years has been insurmountable. Just the moments of laughter I’ve had with my friends is what I’ve loved the most.
HCE: Aside from being a part of our Executive Board, I know you have been a part of Her Campus’s Blogger Network for a while now. What’s that like?
KG: It’s really fun! It’s definitely been a great opportunity as a blogger and a young woman in Boston to have that community. It’s extended nationally, so I get to make friends and connections over the internet. It’s just a really great thing to have.
HCE: Will you continue to blog through the Blogger Network after you graduate?
KG: Yeah, I think the cutoff is age 25, so I have a couple more years to do that.
HCE: What has been your favorite part of being a part of HCE?
KG: I would say the events that we’ve done over the past year have been amazing. Within those, we have really grown together and inspired together. I think the events have made a great difference in our community.
HCE: One of our big events this year was the “Kiss the Canvas” in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I know you had a big part in the creation of that event. How did you come up with the idea?
KG: For a couple years now I’ve wanted to do something that was themed for Breast Cancer Awareness. There are so many people affected by it. I had never had an outlet to do it. When I joined Her Campus Emmanuel, I had a place that was designed for women and I knew I could give back to women by doing this event. So at the event we had makeup applications, did a little pampering, ate some food, and of course, raised awareness, which is something that I was really passionate about.
Thank you so much for sitting down with me, Kathleen! I think I can speak for our team when I say we will definitely miss having you. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments thus far!
