Galentine’s Day, started by the character Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation, is a day for celebrating female friendships. Here are some of our favorite celebrity friendships that are serious #galentinesgoals.
Eimile Bowden, HCE President
I’m obsessed with Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer’s friendship. They co-starred in The Help, which is one of my favorite movies of all time, and now they’re working on another movie together. Recently, Chastain rightfully demanded that she and Spencer be paid the same amount for their upcoming project (which was five times Spencer’s original asking salary), after learning that women of color make even less than white women. Their friendship is built on lifting each other up and we should all take note.
Hannah Lynam, HCE Secretary
My favorite female friendship is between Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams! I love that they grew up together on Game of Thrones and that created a real life friendship between them. Sophie and Maisie are so close they even formed their own mash up name, #mophie!
Ashley Jurus, HCE PR Director
I’ve been a Dawson’s Creek fan since I was fifteen years old. I know, I was a little late to the game. But, I can’t believe the friendship that came from Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps! They’re the cutest best friends, whether it be them sitting together at awards shows or snapping their work outs together. They are always hanging out and supporting women in anyway they can!
Emily McCarthy, HCE Recruitment Manager
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin rock my world on a regular basis. You can tell that there’s a lot of genuine love between them on Grace and Frankie. There’s something to be said about having a friend to remind you that you are just as beautiful at 60+ as anyone in their twenties! God bless the golden years.
Victoria Harding, HCE Co Social Media Director
I love that Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton from One Tree Hill are friend goals both on and off screen. Their friendship is built on how they survived as stars of a hit show together and their ability to support each other as they moved on to new acting roles and paths of life. Although I think it’s too late for my friends and I to star in a high school drama, I hope that we can be like Sophia and Hilarie and keep in touch no matter where life takes us.
Makenzie Moore, HCE Vice President
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, duh! These ladies are comedy powerhouses, and their work is GOLD! Plus, they know how to support each other. Like, real life, would do anything for eachother, support. Amy and Tina are truly iconic, and I think we could all learn a thing or two from their relationship!
Galentine’s Day might be February 13th, but female friendships should be celebrated every day. Here’s to women who cheer each other on and build each other up!
