Four People Who Served through EC Alternative Spring Break Explain Why You Should Apply

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

Last year, I attended my first Alternative Spring Break in Phoenix, Arizona. This is a service opportunity where Saints devote their spring break to volunteering all over the country. Our volunteers serve in Boston, Houston, New Orleans and Phoenix, doing everything from building homes to serving in kitchens and shelters. When students aren’t serving, they are either out sightseeing or in their communal living space doing reflections, prayers and group bonding. This was one of the best experiences of my college career, but don’t just take my word for it! Read on to hear why four other students who have been on ASB want you to apply!

“ASB has been one of my favorite parts of my time here at EC. As a senior this year, I highly recommend going at least once during your time at EC because it is such a great opportunity to build genuine connections here at EC as well as with the people you serve. I have met so many amazing people whom I would never have met if not for this program. ASB has given me a new perspective on what it means to be a community, especially after serving and learning about the resilient people of New Orleans the past three years, soon to be four. Whether you’re a first year or a senior, it will add so much to your EC experience and will stay with you forever!”

“ASB has been one of the best things I have done during my time here at EC! Between the people I’ve met, new places I traveled, and experiences I’ve had I highly recommend everyone to apply!”

“ASB is not only a way to get closer to the Emmanuel community, but it really lights a spark in you as something to take with you forever as a human. I think the endless service opportunities are the best thing about Emmanuel so it’s definitely to make the most out of during our time here!”

“ASB was genuinely one of the best experiences of my life. I made amazing friends, learned a lot, and got to help others. You spend a week getting out of your comfort zone and reflecting on things maybe you wouldn’t have. If you’re interested even slightly, definitely apply! It’s more than worth it.”

If you’re interested in applying, one information session already passed, but there is another one on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7:00 PM in EAB 155!
