Andrea Klos is a junior at Emmanuel, majoring in American Studies and minoring in Spanish. When she’s not busy with her many classes, you can find her running 1804 Society meetings or helping new students as a S.A.G.E coordinator. In her free time, Andrea likes to play on Emmanuel’s club field hockey team, as well as spend time with her friends, which she is somehow always able to make time for. Read on to see how she is able to balance her hectic yet fun schedule!
HCE: What made you decided to become so involved?
AK: I really wanted to leave Emmanuel having made an impact on my school, and I think that motivation really drove me to see what opportunities Emmanuel had to offer, including how I could best take advantage of them.
HCE: How is juggling between 1804, S.A.G.E., and classes?
AK: I have really had to buckle down on time management. I’m usually the queen of procrastination but I’ve kind of had to ditch that habit. Plus, I have super supportive friends and roomies!
HCE: Do you have a favorite club?
AK: No! I don’t like one above the other. I think I like them both equally because they are able to offer different things to those involved.
HCE: What is your favorite part about each?
AK: There’s something unique about each thing that I am a part of, and that’s what keeps it exciting! I love the sense of community that 1804 has provided me with and how much it has helped me grow as a leader. There’s a lot of really incredible seniors that I have learned a lot from. My favorite part of S.A.G.E is how we all work together as coordinators and seeing New Saints really benefit from the program! Being a part of the club field hockey team has allowed me to keeping playing a sport I am obsessed with. We go up against some pretty fierce competition and the spirit of all those girls is amazing!
HCE: What has been the most rewarding experience as a campus leader?
AK: The busier I am, the more I am able to accomplish! So I guess that is most rewarding. I also love to see the people I have helped and created a community with. When I see a new student from S.A.G.E. and they are doing well adjusting to campus life, I immediately smile because I know I had something to do with helping them succeed in college life!
HCE: What do you do in your free time?
AK: My favorite thing to do is sleep! I don’t get much of it these days, which is okay because I’m doing what I love, but a nice nap can go a long way. I also enjoy the typical things like hanging out with friends and going for a Starbucks coffee once in a while.
HCE: Do you have any advice for freshmen/incoming students?
AK: As my Emmanuel muse, Rachel Piccirillo, says, “You rise to the bar that you set for yourself.” That is what I have tried to do. If you believe in yourself and try to make it happen, it will happen! You just have to try.
