She’s one beautiful human, and she certainly has a way with words (seeing as she’s one of our beloved editors)! Check out our send-off to our lovely Lauren C!
Full Name: Lauren Cullinane
Major: Communications and Cultural Media Studies, with a double minor in Management and Women and Gender Studies
Grad Year: 2017
Favorite Extracurricular: Our amazing Her Campus chapter!
Favorite Movie: Dirty Dancing
Best Life Quote: I really like the quote, “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than regret the things I haven’t done”, by Lucille Ball. It’s a nice reminder to take advantage of opportunities and get outside of your comfort zone in order to live life to the fullest.
Her Campus Emmanuel: Hey Lauren! Thank you so much for meeting with me, I can’t wait to hear all about your senior year!
Lauren Cullinane: Of course, I’m happy to chat!
HCE: Well, first things first, how are you feeling!? We’ve got about 10 more days of classes, then finals, then graduation! Is that not totally nuts?
LC: I’m definitely starting to feel burnt out and totally overwhelmed that my final semester of undergrad is coming to a close. On one hand, I’m ready; on the other, I don’t want it to end!
HCE: Why don’t you tell me about some of the things you do in your free time? Other than school and Her Campus…
LC: My free time has become extremely limited–since I’m so busy with class, internship, and work–but I love to spend time with family and friends, whether it be exploring Boston or spending the night in with some Hidyan froyo.
HCE: What are some of the things you’ve been doing this semester to help you prep for the end of your Emmanuel days? *tears*
LC: I’ve been slowly trying to move things back home to logistically prep, but I have also been trying to make it a point to fit quality time with friends into my packed schedule since this is such an exciting time. Scarily enough, I’ve also started my job search!
HCE: What has been your favorite class that you’ve taken here?
LC: I don’t think I can pick just one! I’ve loved all of the classes I’ve taken with Kelly McGuire. I’ve previously taken “Images of Masculinity” and “Love and Gender in British Lit and Film”, and I’m taking “Film Theory” now. They’re all super interesting, but also challenging, and I feel like I learned a lot from each course.
HCE: Could you pick one professor that you think has really made a difference for you here at Emmanuel?
LC: Shout out to our new club advisor, Mark Flynn! I took his PR Writing course last semester and immediately wished he was a part of EC sooner so I could have taken more of my Comm classes with him. Thanks to his PR class, I determined my interest within the communications field was definitely public relations, and he gave me great advice while I was searching for my internship. You can tell he really cares about his students’ success inside and outside of the classroom!
HCE: What do you think you’re going to miss most about being here? Other than your wonderful HC team of course!
LC: I’m certainly going to miss our HC team! I remember when Sammy asked around campus for people to sign a petition to start a chapter here at Emmanuel, and it’s been so rewarding to see it grow and succeed from day one! I’m also going to miss seeing the friendly faces of the EC community around our beautiful campus.
HCE: Do you have any post-grad plans yet? How are you planning to spend your last summer vacation? We want all of the deets!
LC: As of right now, I’m on the job hunt. (Shameless plug: if anyone wants to hire an entry-level PR professional, I’m your girl!) This summer, I may return to my summer camp counselor job for one final season (although I said that last summer…), and I’m going to take advantage of the opportunity to soak up the sun and go on some fun weekend trips. Adulthood is right around the corner and I definitely need some time to reboot my system after this intense year!
HCE: Lastly, if you could give one bit of advice for underclassmen in your major, what would it be?
LC: I would have to say: take courses that you’re actually interested in, whether it be for your gen-eds or you decide you want to pick up a minor. It’s alright to choose a minor that looks good with your major, but ultimately you have to be interested in what you’re studying in order to get some sort of satisfaction out of it in the long run. Also, study abroad if you can! Look into it early and plan ahead and save your pennies! It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. You learn and grow so much from it, plus you gain some life-long memories and stellar pictures to look back at in years to come!
We love you Lauren, and we’re going to miss you more than you could ever know next year! Your bright and bubbly personality has made such an impact on our team, but we know you’re on to bigger and better things. Good luck, and do us here at Emmanuel proud!
