HCE Senior Sendoff: PR Director Jamie Behrent

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

A Senior Send-Off for the Her Campus Emmanuel’s 2018-2019’s Public Relations and Marketing Director Jamie Behrent. Keep reading to hear about her times with HCE, advice for fellow Emmanuel students and some memories about Emmanuel College!

Name: Jamie Behrent

Major: Communications and Media Studies, Minor: Graphic Design

Dream Job: Branding/Influencer Marketing for Adidas Group

HCE Exec Board Position: Public Relations & Marketing Director

Favorite Emmanuel Class: Media Theory: Feminism in Media with Dr. McDonnell

Favorite Thing to do in Boston: Jogging to the Boston Harbor and brunching my way through the city.

HCE: Tell us a little about your history with Her Campus over the past four years!

Jamie: I joined Her Campus as a writer my second semester of Junior Year because I FINALLY had the time to commit. I’ve always heard of Her Campus as the club that is fun loving, all about #girlpower, and putting on really neat events so I just had to join! I love fashion and writing so this was the perf club for me. By the end of that semester I knew I wanted a leadership position and to put myself out there, and ended up landing the PR & Marketing Director position for my senior year! It has been happily ever after!

HCE: What has been your favorite part of being a part of the HCE team?

Jamie: My favorite part of being on the HCE team was working alongside such powerful women on our campus! This team is so hardworking and passionate about this club which makes HCE so much more enjoyable. I loved going to Her Conference over the summer in NYC with the girls and attending the 2018 Her Campus Fashion Week in Boston. I really got to bond with the team and also meet a lot of really cool girls from other chapters!

HCE: Do you have any advice for HCE in the future?

Jamie: Keep up the stamina! Put in 100% of you! Recruit, recruit, recruit! HCE is such an incredible opportunity that so few have taken advantage of at Emmanuel College. The opportunities are endless and connections you make are priceless. But it starts with you, you have the power of making or breaking HCE. If you go into it with all your heart and a positive attitude, you’ll be sure to help HCE make its mark on our campus!

HCE: What have been some of your favorite moments and memories at Emmanuel?

Jamie:  I actually transferred here my sophomore year and really had no idea what was in store for me. I must say, this was the best decision I have ever made. I have made such amazing memories with amazing people here. From my professors to my friends, I have had a huge support system here and I am so thankful for all the opportunities I have been offered and taken advantage of in Boston. Meeting my best friend as both being transfers when we were sophomores was definitely a highlight. Together we’ve gone on trips to Wyoming to visit her family, to NYC, and Las Vegas and the memories are priceless. I ended up becoming friends with her former roommate and her friends and to this day I am so thankful for them. I’ve been to countless Red Sox games with my girls, gone out and had some crazy nights, and I also can say I def ate my way through Boston haha. I’ve evolved so much but it wouldn’t have been possible without HCE and everyone around me rooting me on.

First week of Sophomore year, met my best friend from Wyoming, Haley.

HCE: I know it’s slightly anxiety-inducing, but any plans for after you graduate?

Jamie: That is a great question. They say here 95% of undergrads graduate with a job from here and I would like to know where the heck that number came from haha. Currently I am looking to stay in Boston and have been going through the applying and interviewing process so I guess we’ll just have to see who wants Jamie Behrent. My five year plan is to be out on the West Coast in grad school soaking up the sunshine and exploring a new city of opportunities. It’s too cold here in New England.

HCE: Do you have any advice or anything you would want to say to freshman Jamie?

Jamie: Well considering how after my first semester of freshman year I dropped out of college I would go back and high-five myself. I would tell her, “Thank you for making yourself a priority and recognizing you are not happy, and finally doing something about it.” It’s daunting for a lot of people, dropping out and having to restart again. I don’t think many people thought I would go back to school and you know what, I did and I’m graduating at the top of my class with incredible connections and experiences under my belt. I would also tell young Jamie to stop planning her future. As a freshman I had this set job I wanted in the fashion industry and later realized that I was capable of so much more. Just go with the wind and take every opportunity that comes your way – because you never know who will come knocking at your door.

Her Campus taught me two things: you can be whoever you set your heart out to be and, girls must always stick together. One day I will be my a CEO of my own company and brand. But everyday I will have my girl’s backs and encourage + support them to be the best versions of themselves. Cheers to HCE and Emmanuel College!

Thank you so much for everything you’ve done with HCE! We have absolutely loved having you as PR & Marketing Director this year. Good luck with everything in the future, we know you’re bound for great things. We’re going to miss you too much! HCXO
