Dooley’s Week 2013!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Get ready to go back in time, roman style. One of Emory’s biggest highlights of spring semester, Dooley’s Week is set to kick off April 1st through April 6th. As you may have already guessed (or seen around campus) the theme this year is “Doolius Caesar Presents: When In Rome, Dooley As The Romans Do!”

Students look forward to Dooley’s week each year, and who could blame them? Between all the great food, performances, and of course the of hope of getting dismissed from class by Dooley, what could be better?

But this year is reported to be one Dooley’s week for the ages! This year the Student Programming Council (SPC) has made an emphasis to have a least one event every day of the week so there is even more for us to enjoy. According to Graham Brooks, Dooley’s Week Co-Chair, this meant combining Spring Band Party with Dooley’s week so there could be multiple music artists performing.

Brooks commented, “This week will be spoken of for ages to come; a new chapter of the Roman legacy. Celebrated and enjoyed by all, Dooley’s Week will be the stuff of legend. They will sing ballads and spin tales of this week; the week of Doolius. Dooley shall be our Caesar and greatness will be witnessed by all.”

So here at the main events to get psyched for: Taste of Emory, Comedian Hannible Buress, Kendrick Lamar, DJ 3Lau, plus a few others…

“McDonough Field will be our Coliseum and Emory will be our championed Gladiator. Honor and glory await,” Brooks said.

And I’m sure after seeing all the events happening this week you are wondering how the hell does one plan this week?? Well, as you might have guessed the planning is no easy task. With countless meetings and numerous event planners, Brooks explained that it takes the whole Emory community to make Dooley’s week possible.

I will be the first to acknowledge Emory’s lack of school spirit, but during this week students, faculty, and staff come together for all the fun festivities. Emory doesn’t need tailgating to have a good time. Brooks said, “The fact that 3 to 4 thousand students come out to support Taste of Emory, Spring Band Party, and Dooley’s Ball speaks volumes about the type of community we have.”

So grab that white sheet and make your toga, because this is one week that is going to be romantastic.
