The GIRLS are back in town.
That’s right—after a lonely break from our favorite twenty-somethings, the girls and their problems back, and naturally, more tumultuous, expensive, and fabulous than ever.
After Season 2’s finale of breakups, reconciliations, and Q-tips, the first few episodes have been as much of a relief as Hannah’s new hairstyle. Here’s how the girls of GIRLS left us with predictions for the rest of the season. Caution! Spoilers ahead.
Hannah: Surprisingly, Hannah is sort of getting it all together. Although Season 2 ended with a Q-tip in her ear and a midnight rescue from Adam, this season begins in a better place: Adam’s arms! As Hannah tells her strange therapist, living with Adam works for both their love life and her OCD. An impromptu visit from Adam’s sister Caroline (a doppelgänger for Freida Kahlo) exemplified their remarkably functional dynamic. However, from the run-in with Natalia, pressing e-book deadlines, and worries about money, it’s safe to say this season is bound to test their relationship and Hannah’s mental state.
Marnie: On the other hand, Marnie is currently the Anti-Marnie. Working at Ray’s coffee shop, Marnie is desperately trying to prove her worth—to her mom, to her friends, to Charlie, and especially to herself. Hopefully this season, she can find a sense of control and compose herself before she completely self-destructs onto the streets of Brooklyn. But, let’s all pray we don’t have to witness any more stretches of Marnie awkwardly jamming with the karaoke machine again this season. Cringe.
Jessa: Only Jessa Johannson could get kicked out of rehab and look glamorous while doing so. Although leaving rehab seems like a step in the wrong direction, Jessa requests that Hannah come retrieve her—after a lifetime of flakiness and nomadic behavior, it seems like Jessa knows she needs the comfort of her friends. This season promises Jessa’s attempts to reconcile friendships, perhaps a job, and definitely braids. Lots of braids.
Shoshanna: Relishing her last year before the “professional world”, Shoshanna attempts to master both reckless freedom and academic focus. This new Shosh is a far cry from the innocent girl who “accidentially smoked crack” in Season 1. Armed with a cool new pair of shades, Shoshanna has managed to shut out Ray, baffle her friends with mildly offensive statements, and somehow still have time to attend class. Despite her new outlook on life, this season already includes signature Shoshanna quotes.
If you haven’t seen the double-feature season premiere, HBO has uploaded both to YouTube for a limited time. For more fun, add GIRLS’s official Snapchat (girlsHBO) for hysterical snaps! All adventurous women do!
