Previously, I wrote an article about two options for styling your hair without heat treating it. Since then, I’ve discovered a new technique that allows you to have beach waves or ringlets depending on how you prepare. Hairstyling options that don’t involve heat are amazing because they keep your hair healthier and save you time in the morning! Below are the steps to creating great natural looking waves:
What you need: Hair ties or bobby pins
What to do: This technique works best on damp or almost-dry hair, so I recommend showering before. Start by parting your hair how you would wear it naturally. Next, working away from your part, at the front of your head, section off a small square (this will usually include your bangs if you have them). Start by twisting close to the root. You want the entire section of hair to be twisted tightly so you can then twist the entire strand around itself. You are making small ballerina buns. Secure with a bobby pin or hair tie. Continue this method for your entire head. Then get some beauty sleep!
In the morning, when you untwist the ‘buns,’ you will have ringlets. If you want the curls to remain tight you can just lightly comb them with your fingers. If you prefer a wavier look, you can brush through them gently, adding a sea salt spray if you wish.
Tips: I suggest using a gel, such as Bumble and bumble’s ‘Don’t Blow It’ air drying cream, while your hair is still wet so that it holds a curl better. You can also use hairspray in the morning to make sure they stay intact. In addition, if you are sleeping on your buns, I wouldn’t recommend bobby pins, as they might be painful. Keep in mind that the smaller the buns, the tighter the curls will be. So, if you want bigger waves, trying doing a few larger sections.
