There’s nothing that can put a damper on a productive week or a fun weekend quite like the flu. Unfortunately, especially on college campuses, this year’s flu season is worse than ever, and with a busy schedule, it’s hard to make health a priority. Here are some steps you can take to avoid getting sick!
1. Wash your hands/Purell
Although this seems almost too obvious, it’s so incredibly important to remember. Wash your hands after coughing or sneezing, and after touching any public surfaces. If you can reduce the number of germs you actually come in contact with, you’re less likely to get sick!
2. Get sleep, eat healthy, and exercise!
When you’re well-rested, your whole body, including your immune system, functions at its peak. Armed with 7-9 hours of sleep per night, your body will be prepared to fight any virus that comes its way.
Similarly, exercising, eating healthy and staying hydrated are key to a stronger immune system.
3. Reduce stress
This may be the most difficult thing to ask a college student to do, but it’s well worth the effort. Stress makes you more susceptible to illness, and avoiding any unnecessary stress is crucial for reducing your chances of getting sick. Be it planning out assignments so you’re not rushed, taking small breaks, or just making sure that long days of work are mixed with doing things you actually enjoy, a little less stress makes a huge difference in your overall health.
Although it’s impossible to completely avoid getting sick, use these tips to help you stay as healthy as possible this semester!
