How to Wear Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year
There’s something oddly satisfying about looking at color swatches. Whether it’s bolts of fabric or paint swatches, it’s hard not to admire a gorgeous color.
Maybe that’s what draws people to Pantone’s Color of the Year.
If you’re unfamiliar with the color of the year campaign, here’s the lowdown: Every December, Pantone announces the color that will reign for the next year.
This year’s color is called Ultra Violet; a medium-toned purple that’s fun, but not too bright.
You might be thinking: so what?
But Pantone predicts the Color of the Year not just as a pretty wall color, but as the most popular color in fashion for the upcoming year. That means you’ll be seeing Ultra Violet everywhere you look, especially in the fashion world. Some designers have already hopped on the new trend:
If you’re not in love with the shade, rest assured; Pantone releases a series of colors to accompany the color of the year. That means you can rock any shade within the same color family (aka tone) of Ultra Violet.
But how can you wear it? We all know you won’t be walking around in one of those crazy runway outfits.
Check out the quick guide below for fun ways to incorporate Pantone’s Color of the Year into your spring wardrobe.
Bags
The easiest way to incorporate a fun pop of color into your wardrobe is with a bag! (From left to right, Kate Spade, Kohl’s, and Charming Charlie).
Tops
Everyone loves a good top! Try one of the options below (from SheIn, Forever 21, and Macy’s), or use them as inspiration for your next shopping trip. And don’t be afraid to go out on a limb with a cool pattern or graphic tee. Fashion is all about taking risks.
Bottoms
If you’re a total fashion nova, bottoms are the way to go for a fun pop of color. Brands are jumping on the colored bottoms trend for spring, so this might be a cool way to include purple in your wardrobe this season! (From left to right: Charlotte Russe, Kohl’s, and American Eagle).
Shoes
A good pair of shoes can make or break an outfit. And if you’re not super adventurous, you’re probably more likely to wear bright shoes or accessories than actual clothing. Here are some of my favorite pairs. (From left to right; DSW, Nordstrom, and Macy’s)
Fun Extras
Last but not least, don’t forget to pick up some purple accessories! Whether you opt for earrings, sunglasses, a phone charger, or even a new makeup bag, there’s always room for a little bit of color. (All from Forever 21)
