My Favorite Fall Activities (For College Students)

As the foliage reaches its peak here in New England, I find myself wanting to embrace the crisp air and pretty orange leaves as much as possible before it gets cold and snowy. Here are some of my favorite activities to do on and off campus during this season!

Baking

If you’re craving something warm and sweet as the weather cools down, baking is the perfect activity for you! Even if you do not have access to a car or a campus shuttle, baking ingredients can be sent to your campus with a service like UberEats or Instacart. Some yummy ideas include the Pillsbury Halloween cookies, apple or pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, apple crisp, and more! This is especially fun because it can leave your room smelling like fall even after you’re done baking.

Halloween Movie Night

A super easy and usually free way to spend a night in October is to put on a spooky movie! For something less scary I recommend Corpse Bride or Coraline. If you’re looking for something a little more thrilling, Scream or The Conjuring are classic horror movies.

Spooky Playlist Making & Pinterest

For more of a chill evening, making a Halloween playlist can be both fun and relaxing. Listening to music and making playlists is one of my favorite little pastimes in general, so why not combine it with the season! After making the playlist, it can also be fun to go on Pinterest and find some costume inspiration.

Fall Farm-Going

If you have access to a car, campus shuttle, or an Uber, a classic fall activity is going to a farm. A lot of the time, farms around this time of year will have a variety of things to do such as apple picking, a corn maze, pumpkin picking, a hay ride, and more! You can even extend the fun by baking your picked apples into a pie or carving your own pumpkin later that night.

Leaf Pressing & Seasonal Journaling

Something you can do without having to go far is finding leaves to press or creating a fall journal. Simply find whatever pretty leaves catch your eye (it is better to take them once they have already fallen off!) and sandwich them between papers. Put a heavy book on top of this paper sandwich and leave it for a few days or a couple of weeks. This is a great craft you can come back to and create something like a pretty garland or use it to decorate a scrapbook. Speaking of scrapbooks, if you already have a journal or empty notebook, decorating it for fall can be a relaxing way to embrace the season using your artistic imagination. If you’re not so much of an artist, you can always use a coloring book as well!

Check Your Campus For Free Activities!

Lastly, for someone like me who does not have a car on campus, one of my favorite things about being on campus is checking out all of the fun and free activities the school provides for us. So far I have been able to paint pumpkins, sip warm apple cider, and decorate a fall tote bag, all provided for by the campus Student Engagement!

The reason I love these activities so much is because you can do them with one friend, a small group, or by yourself. I hope you make time this fall to enjoy the weather and participate in something fun on this list!
