#GenerationVote: Llamas and Alpacas on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter Cornwall chapter.

If you just so happened to be wandering around The Stannary yesterday you would’ve no doubt had a furry surprise! As part of the #GenerationVote campaign FXU invited some new friends to Tremough Campus in a bid to encourage students to register for the upcoming general election. Despite being a slightly bizarre way to draw in student votes it evidently worked with cohorts of students circling around the friendly pack of llamas and alpacas. The white llama, pictured top left, was undoubtedly the funniest. Let’s just say he doesn’t take too kindly to a gentle brushing, and no amount of carrots will be able to fix that.

Not only was this event a great way to encourage student participation but it was also a great way for students to learn more about these interesting animals. With two experts on hand students were able to ask any questions they had about their new friends, and were in safe hands from any unruly llamas. Who knows what damage they can cause with those chompers!

In addition to making new friends FXU also motivated students by holding a mock election. Students could practise for the May election by making their vote and placing their card into a ballot box. As a reward for joining in the political festivities students were showered with free chocolate and badges, and were even the opportunity to take a self outside of 10 Downing Street! Okay, well not the actual 10 Downing Street, but you get the idea…

The day was a complete success, and now we’re just counting down the days until our furry friends hit up The Stan once again! Until next time guys!

AND DON’T FORGET… if you haven’t already registered to vote you can do so here!

See you on May 7th 2015!
