Rachel Walsh is the 2016/17 President of FECCLES, our Penryn Campus drama society. We had a quick chat with her about stepping up to her new role!
Name? Rachel Walsh.
What course are you studying? English (2nd Year).
What made you interested in taking up the role of FECCLES President? I had a real difficulty forming friendships and finding ways to leave my flat at the beginning of first year. Once I found FECCLES, everything changed for me. I grew more confident, I became involved in plays, and I found a group of people who welcomed me. FECCLES is really important to me, so the opportunity to give something back wasn’t something I could pass up.
What are your plans this year for the society? Over the past couple of weeks freshers have been coming to tell me about their broad spectrum of creative ideas, and it’s made me really excited for the year ahead. As well as our usual 3 plays and weekly sessions, I’m planning a collaboration with multiple societies. It’s early days, but if it comes together it should be an event that students outside our society can enjoy. The committee is also currently organising a trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon.
And what will this year’s freshers get out of joining the society? FECCLES is a wonderful place to explore your creativity outside of an academic setting. From writing, to acting or production, we offer a wide range of opportunities to nurture your talent and improve your confidence. Most importantly, I believe you will find friends among us!
