4 Motivational Songs to Get You Through Term Two

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Let’s be honest, the second semester of university is always kind of sucky. The excitement of Christmas is over, there are soooo many deadlines and it rains about 90% of the time – #DEVONPROBLEMS. But don’t let this get you down – summer will be here before you know, and we can all swap hours in the library for festivals, cider and maybe a bit less rain. Unfortunately there is coursework to be done in the meantime. Luckily, HCX is here to help! These tunes are bound to cheer you up and make that 3000 word essay slightly more bearable.

1. How Far I’ll Go – Moana

First of all, if you haven’t seen Moana yet, do you even know how to procrastinate? Disney’s newest film is full of banging tune after banging tune, but this has to be the best. Listening to this while walking up Forum Hill will make you feel like a tribal queen hiking volcanoes in Hawaii, rather than a slightly sweaty student trying to make it to Peter Chalk.

2. Good Vibrations – The Beach Boys

It’s (probably) a proven scientific fact – you can’t not smile when listening to this song. Ok, it may feature on your dad’s iPod, but as long as you keep your headphones in, you can totally lie through your teeth and pretend you’re listening to a cool house mix, while secretly jamming to the Beach Boys.

3. Power – Kanye West

Let’s be honest, we could all do with channelling a lil’ bit of Yeezy sometimes. Kanye wouldn’t let that slightly low essay mark get him down, and his one night stands end always end with a Stride of Pride, not a Walk of Shame. Get through this term the same way Kanye would – with unrelenting narcissism. And if he can run for President in 2020, you can totally make your 8.30 lecture.

4. Run the World (Girls) – Beyoncé

Obviously, Queen Bey has to be on the list somewhere and this classic cannot be beaten. And with her recent pregnancy announcement, the thought of two more tiny Beyoncés in the world has to bring hope to your life, even if nothing else does right now!

I am a fourth year student reading for a degree in English with History and Middle Eastern Studies. When I'm not busy writing essays, I love fleeing campus and exploring anywhere and everywhere. My favourite place in the world (other than Exeter, of course) is Iquitos in South America.
