So, here at HCX we sure do know the struggle of finding the right sports bra. There’s so much to consider: you need to look at the comfort factor, price, level of support and most importantly whether it makes you look good while you’re working out. We spoke to some sports-savvy ladies and got the scoop on the dos and donts of finding the right sports bra for you.

For those ladies out there with a larger bust, go for a hook-and-eye back.

We all know that the absolute WORST thing after a workout is attempting to take off your sports bra. One of our sources suggested Victoria’s Secret. She told us “it physically keeps your boobs taped down, but also doesn’t make me look like a potato sack”. Obviously, Victoria’s Secret may be considered a real luxury (around £30-40) when on a student budget, but we think it’s probably a good investment, especially for fresher fitness fenatics. Maybe pop it on the Christmas list? Also, BONUS, they’re pretty. No one wants a beige bra in this day and age.

Now, one of our absolute favourite brands is H&M. They have sports bras that are a reasonable price (around £8-13). A first year told us “The sizing is simple, I’m usually a medium and a medium is what I have. Although, they may not be great for bigger boobs as they mostly just have pull on ones. But I’m around 32C-D and they’re great and multipurpose. And they’re so comfy that I’ve just worn them when I’ve had absolutely no intention of doing any exercise.”

WARNING: AVOID THESE SPORTS BRAS

The “shock absorber”. Apparently, they are “ugly and do not absorb any shock, big or small”. So, they don’t exactly live up to their name by the sounds of things. Also, Nike can be a tricky one. Some girls have said that they chaffed terribly and the sizing is tiny. But others have said that it depends on the style you go for.

They do last for ageeeees… so maybe it’s worth going to a Nike shop where you can try on and make sure it’s worth the investment. (Even more worth it if you find a Nike clearance store and snag a bargain!)

For a long time, sports bra fashion was ruled by pretty, little lacy numbers, sacrificing comfort for aesthetics. However, in recent times, we’ve seen a shift in this trend, moving away from sexy -but ultimately impractical underwear-  towards a sports-luxe craze, which is now seen as sexy too. So, shop around for something that fits your shape and level of activity… and never settle for beige.
