In the midst of exams, the girls at HCX have taken the occasional break to browse our favourite shopping websites. With all the spring/summer seasons in stock it’s time to start planning your holiday outfits. The summer is your opportunity to wear bright colours, florals and show off your tans. Here are some of our staple picks for all the summer events.
Festival
Festival style outfits need to combine style and practicality. A pair of vintage shorts (Urban Outfitters £32) are effortlessly stylish and a summer staple. They would look great with one of Topshop’s hundreds of crop tops whilst not being too revealing due to the high waist. If you’re feeling daring why not lean towards boho chic and invest in a floral crown. Crown and Glory have a huge range of gorgeous pieces ranging from £12-£20. These will add something unique and girlie to any outfit. English festivals will inevitably be muddy so follow in the incredibly trendy Cara Delevingne’s footsteps (quite literally) and invest in some Hunter wellies as pictured. They look like a pair of studded high tops, but actually are completely waterproof and are a much more fashionable alternative to wellies. They are on the pricier side at £89, but they are sure to be all over magazine style pages this summer -get in there first!

Summer Nights
When the sun goes in it can get pretty chilly quickly, this doesn’t mean you have to delve back into your winter wardrobe. A colourful maxi skirt will keep your legs warm whilst looking summery. This one is £29.99 from Zara and comes in a range of colours. Pair this skirt with some studded sandals and you’ll be bang on trend. Zara have a lot of gorgeous sandals (in fact everything in Zara is on our wish lists at the moment), but we particularly liked these black ones (£39.99) as they’ll go with everything. To keep you from getting cold throw a jacket on top. If you’re heading out to dinner then go for a blazer, but if you’re keeping it casual we like this oversized denim jacket from Topshop (£48).

By the Beach
If you’re lucky enough to be heading to a beach this summer then a playsuit is the perfect thing to throw on over a bikini. Urban Outfitters and Topshop both have a great selection. We particularly liked this gorgeous white Topshop one (£46). The laser cut detailing makes it perfect for taking you from day time beach frolicking to dancing the night away. When it comes to bikinis there are tonnes to choose from, we absolutely love this cute high-waisted fruit print one from Topshop (£34) which has a lovely vintage feel. When you’re in the sun all day it’s important to cover up your head when you can, a straw hat is the perfect summer hat. H&M have a good collection.

City Break
Colourful jeans are a great addition to any summer wardrobe if you’re brave enough to wear them. Just make sure you keep the rest of your outfit neutral. Zara have a great selection of colour jeans. These cobalt ones (£29.99) particularly caught our eye. When strolling around a city you want comfort and layers to keep you the right temperature whether you’re wandering the streets or in a museum. Pair the jeans with a plain white cami and this stunning embellished floaty blazer (£69.99), also from Zara. Throw on a statement necklace and you’ll be emulating Serena from Gossip Girl, which has never been a bad thing.
