With London Fashion Week in full swing debuting SS14 collections (confusing isn’t it?) we thought it only fit remind you of the top trends from the AW13 catwalks. From fabulous fur, to the reworking of the 1980’s anarchist punk look, there is a trend that everyone can rock this season.

Punk

Kicking off this seasons’ trend report in style is the anti-establishment look of leather, chains and spikes, as punk reinvents itself yet again to become a much coveted look. The Versace and Saint Laurent catwalks featured many bold tartan prints teamed with chunky boots, however to meet a student budget get down to Primark for an amazing collection of punk-inspired items. Team their popular red and black kilt with a slouchy jumper and Doc Martens and you’ll be ready to rock.

Pretty in Pink

The palette this season is not all doom and gloom! Pink was a surprising shade on the AW13 catwalks, but we’re not complaining. Think candy-floss when shopping for your staple coat this month as pastel pinks own the runway at Jil Sander and Jonathan Saunders. A double-breasted style will flatter most body shapes, or go for a cocoon coat if you want to really replicate the catwalk looks. The dusky pink colour is extremely versatile and we recommend you wear it with winter florals for a feminine day look, or a sequin dress for a perfect Christmas party outfit.

Androgynous

We’ve seen the masculine look this summer in the form of matching suit pieces, many with a floral twist, but now tailoring turns darker for AW with much cleaner lines and a more neutral palette. To add a touch of androgyny into your everyday lecture look, grab some brogues and a roomy satchel for all your daily essentials and wear with tailored trousers, and a crisp white shirt. Layer with a grey marl jumper when the chill sets in.

Faux-Fur

Cara Delevingne showcased this trend on the Fendi catwalk wearing brightly coloured coats, scarves and boots lined with some seriously striking fur. There are so many realistic faux-fur looks, so everyone can imitate this glamorous look. We are loving Topshop’s range of faux-fur pieces including gilets, cropped jackets and full-length coats, as well as ASOS, River Island and Miss Selfridge.

So if you buy nothing else, get hold of some of these pieces from our top four trends edit to update your winter wardrobe.

Olivia Wilkerson is a third year Business Economics student and is very excited to take up her role as Fashion and Beauty Deputy Editor of Her Campus Exeter this year! Alongside her degree, she loves catching up with the latest trends by reading numerous magazines and blogs and uses this as inspiration for her own fashion and fitness blog which she has recently started. Fitness is important to her, so you may see her down the local gym working a sweat or at the local health food store (there's a great one on Well Street!) buying lots of lovely treats! This summer, Olivia will be going to the South of France to relax and scout out the St Tropez style icons as well as braving the potentially incredibly muddy fields of Glastonbury! As she is studying Spanish as part of her degree, she is also aiming to undertake an intensive course in Barcelona for a week, before returning to Exeter to study hard for third year! She hopes that working for Her Campus Exeter will allow her to meet lots of wonderful like-minded girls and to further develop HCX to make it the best it can be.
