Great First Dates In Exeter – The Old Firehouse!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

So you’ve finally got a date next week, but are you stuck wondering where to take them which will impress but which won’t be hard on the student loan? Maybe you’ve fancied them from afar, or you’re fighting your way out of the friend-zone, and finding the perfect place for a first date can be daunting. Well luckily we’re here to help! We’re slowly scouring the streets of Exeter to bring you a collection of Exeter’s greatest first date places!

First up, we paid a visit to The Old Firehouse!

Perfectly located just off the end of Longbrook Street (round the corner from John Lewis) this local three story pub is overflowing with character, and is a must-visit for all students. You may have to hustle for a space or a table, but The Old Firehouse is popular for a reason! The combination of rustic wooden tables and candlelight provides the perfect setting to sink into a cozy corner and get to know one another, in a welcoming atmosphere that’s guaranteed to make you relax and feel at home.

The evening menu just serves pizzas. ‘Why only pizzas?’ we hear you cry! Well, when they are that good, they don’t need to serve anything else. The Old Firehouse pizzas have something of a reputation, not only are they huge (and ideal for sharing…) they are a guaranteed success.

My personal recommendation would be to share the Greek-style pizza, served with a tzatziki dip I can’t ever quite get enough of, and wash it down with a warming glass of red wine.  Also if you have a chance, say hi to the very welcoming (and definitely not Italian) bar manager Akis; a friendly face who adds to the Firehouse charm.

The best part is, it’s not JUST brilliant for dates, it’s also great for pretty much any occasion! Why not spend an evening with friends; try the local ciders and gorge happily on pizza, enjoy the live music nights or get competitive in the pub quiz, and, if that’s not enough for you, head over during the day for a home-cooked roast dinner or mouth watering gourmet burger.

There is no denying the attraction of The Old Firehouse, so head down, and enjoy the first of our Great First Dates in Exe!
