Top 5 Wanderlust Websites

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

The buzzword of 2013 seems to be procrastination. I must admit, I’m a little tired of it; when you hear it about twenty times a day it gets a tad old, especially when it’s concerning you. Nevertheless, we are all guilty of the P word and like everyone else, I spend a lot of Internet time searching for new means of dawdling, putting things off, delaying and general dilly-dallying. Stumble Upon occupied me for a while, but after growing bored of useless household items, my newest online fad is travel websites. There really is nothing like a healthy dose of middle-class escapism to get me through my day in the library, and I inevitably end up spending a good portion of my day living vicariously through other people’s holidays. So here are a few of my favorites:

1. World Tour Stores

This is the blog of a couple, Alex and Taru, who actually had the guts to throw it all in and dare to live the dream; travelling around the world on the their sail boat.

2. The Cool Hunter

For the ultimate globetrotting envy check out these very luxurious photo shoots in their ‘travel’ section. While spending 12 minutes taking a visual journey through Iceland may sound like a waste of time, it gave me a snippet of peace away from the incessant hum of the Lasok Law Library. Equally check out their ‘amazing places’ tab.

3. Murad Osmann’s Instagram

Murad Osmann photographs his girlfriend leading him around the world, and while it took me a while to stop feeling inadequate looking at her perfectly shaped behind 40 times over, the scenes that she leads him into are really quite breathtaking. It makes a romantic image and nice change from your typical couple pose.

4. Atlas Obscura

This website is the home of the weird and wonderful, reviewing anything from homes built from paper to bone churches, it is the place to find the kookiest travel destinations. As they themselves claim: ‘In an age where everything seems to have been explored and there is nothing new to be found, we celebrate a different way of looking at the world’

5. Epicurious

Okay, so while this is not strictly a travel blog if you go into ‘articles and guides’ and then click on ‘dining and travel’ you’ll find some great posts on food types, recipes and restaurant reviews from all over world.
