Name: Chief John Vanderpuye

Year: 2018

HC: Hometown?

CV: Accra, Ghana

HC: Campus Activities?

CV: Chessmen, I’m in the soccer club, what else do I do? I’m a part of Impact. I’m a part of a small acoustic band known as Capo 6. That’s pretty much it.

HC: Intended major?

CV: Business maybe, and minor in Chem.

HC: When did you start singing?

CV: When I was really young, like maybe 7, because my dad was really involved with the church, like the choir, and they would feature me and my brother sometimes. People would say “awww the twins are singing, so cute.” The church had kids day where they would have performances.

HC: Most played song?

CV: Yo that’s hard, I like King by Years & Years; it’s a really awesome song.

HC: Favorite song to sing?

CV: I want you back, by The Jackson 5.

HC: Is there a particular song you would like the Chessmen to sing?

CV: I would like them to sing Eyes Shut by Years & Years.

HC: Relationship status?

CV: I’m single… right now.

HC: Most attractive quality in a girl?

CV: Laugh at my jokes, even if it’s not funny.

HC: Ideal date?

CV: Wow, honestly, stay at home with a good movie and wings, yeah that would be my ideal date.

HC: Female turnoff?

CV: If she doesn’t laugh at my jokes… If she says I’m not funny.

HC: Go to emoji for flirting?

CV: The one where it’s like smiling, but not smiling, and blushing.

HC: Favorite ice cream flavor?

CV: Chocolate, just plain chocolate.

HC: Something you do to impress girls, besides sing?

CV: Uhhh, I can rap too. Yeah, that works.

HC: Fun fact about yourself?

CV: I like to sing to I’m a Barbie Girl. For a time it used to be one of my favorite songs, ya know I didn’t tell anyone. I kept it low key. I would listen to it as I was about to hit the gym.

HC: Fave word?

CV: Revolution, because I’m a guy who likes to experience different things and I don’t like things to be one way all the time, so revolution just sums up how I like to live.

HC: What do you value most about life?

CV: Wow this is deep. Experiences that give me thrills. Having little adventures. I love going to a different place, experiencing different things… maybe going kayaking or mountaineering.

HC: What do you miss most about home?

CV: The food. I really love Ghana food, it’s really spicy compared to here, I think there is more flavor. Particularly, I miss Jollof, it’s a Ghanaian food, and it’s cooked in stew so its brownish and it’s really spicy and it has a lot of flavor.

HC: What do you sing in the shower?

CV: I like singing, Singing in the Shower, in the shower. It just gets you pumped for the day.

HC: Something girls do that drives you crazy?

CV: When they are at parties and they go to the bathroom together. I am just wondering if it’s a hangout spot in the bathroom… is there a TV or something? I just want to know what’s in there.

HC: Words of wisdom?

CV: I have words of wisdom for chemistry students: learn your nomenclature.

HC: Favorite meal of the day?
