It was a clear sunny Saturday morning when my best friend and I walked into the local coffee shop. As per usual we both looked at the menu and she ordered first. She ordered her typical large iced coffee and egg and cheese bagel and because I’m indecisive I took forever to decide. Consequently, my order is normally complicated, a frozen hot chocolate with coconut milk and a shot of espresso. However, this time the waiter told me they no longer served coconut milk, so I thought quickly and switched to almond milk. However, to my surprise the guy working behind the coffee bar walked over to me and informed me that even though I switched to almond milk there would still be diary in the frozen hot chocolate. By this point I was really puzzled, so I switched my order once again to a simple iced almond milk mocha. Once again the guy behind the bar tells me the chocolate used in mocha had dairy and finally I decided to give up. Mindful of the growing line of people waiting to place their orders behind me and utterly confused I accepted the fact that today I would be consuming dairy no matter what I did. I sighed with defeat, paid for my order, and went to my seat.
About five minutes later the guy behind the bar is walking over to our high-top table to give me my mocha latte. It was then that I noticed how cute he was; the natural light streaming in through the windows lit up his green eyes and like that I knew that would be his nickname. Gorgeous Green Eyes proceeded to apologize for the miscommunication and confusion that initiated our first interaction and of course, it was totally fine! He definitely didn’t have to apologize. He returned back to the counter and from my seat I noticed that he would casually glance in my direction ever so often. Inevitably, we made eye contact a few times and as my best friend and I were finishing up our breakfast he walked over to our table once more to give us FREE COFFEE CARDS; one for each of us. Ooh la la. It was a victorious moment at last. Gorgeous Green Eyes once again apologized and when I looked him in the eye, told him thank you, and that we would be back next weekend, he smiled and said, “Well, I’ll be here.”
There is certainly no shame in flirting with the cute barista who makes your coffee… So for all you complicated orderers maybe you’ll get lucky like me, and snag two free coffee cards for you and your bestie!
