Name: Nick Laughman
Year: 2018
HC: Major?
NL: Classical societies
HC: What exactly is that?
NL: There are two majors in the classics department, one is classical societies and the other is classical languages. Classical languages focuses on language and literature, while classical societies focuses on the history.
HC: What’s your favorite thing about F&M?
NL: How receptive professors are toward student opinion and feedback. For example, I’m in a sociology class, and there was a lesson that I wasn’t quite comfortable with the material and I talked to the professor and she was receptive to my comments and asked how I felt about it after the class. It was nice because a state school or a larger school wouldn’t be receptive to that.
HC: What are you involved in at F&M?
NL: Parliamentarian/risk manager of PSP, VP of Mu Upsilon Sigma, play tuba in Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble, and I’m Harbaugh Eating Club.
HC: What’s your favorite memory at F&M?
NL: I have two really fun memories of F&M. They’re both of friends; the first one is a secret santa I had last January, and it was the first time I really felt part of a friend group at F&M. The other was rightbefore classes started this semester. I Ha a lot of people over at my apartment and we had fondue. Just seeing how happy they were and what a great time we had made me feel good.
HC: Favorite quote?
NL: It’s by Walt Disney; “It all started with a mouse.” I think it’s funny because it didn’t all start with a mouse, it actually started with Walt Disney.
HC: Ben or John?
NL: John, definitely John. He had a much bigger impact on the United States as a whole than Ben did.
