The 13 Best Christmas Movies You Need To Start Watching Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Thanksgiving has passed and we are all gearing up for the holiday season. Christmas music is playing, wrapping presents is underway, and the smell of freshly baked cookies is in the air. Christmas movies are playing on station after station and you can’t help but just cuddle up next to the fire with a cup of hot cocoa watching each and every one. Here are the 13 best Christmas movies you need to start watching now:

1. The Santa Clause Trilogy

This is the classic trilogy telling the story of a father turned Santa Clause. I know you watched this as a kid wondering if your own dad had a secret identity.

2. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How can you not love the transformation of a scrooge into a loving and compassionate person?

3. Home Alone 1 & 2

We cannot get enough of Kevin’s clever and comical tactics against the burglars.

4. It’s a Wonderful Life

A classic black and white Christmas film. No other explanation necessary.

5. Elf

First, he passed through the seven levels of the candy cane forest, through the sea of swirly-twirly gum drops, and then walked through the Lincoln Tunnel…

6. Miracle on 34th Street

The little girl who played Matilda is in this, so how can you not want to watch it?! All she wants to do is help Kris Kringle!

7. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

This movie will get you to laugh and enjoy another family’s holiday debacle.

8. Serendipity

This movie takes place during the holidays in one of the most amazing cities in the world, and anything is possible when it comes to two strangers and fate.

9. Polar Express

This movie makes you wish that you were a kid again and just want to believe… and want some hot chocolate!

10. The Holiday

Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Jack Black. In a Christmas movie. How could you want anything more?

11. Jingle All the Way

This movie will bring back memories of those toys that you desperately wanted Santa to get you as a kid, but ironically were sold out everywhere. Did your parent go to the lengths that this dad did for his son?

12. Four Christmases

The journey of a couple who have to be with their families for the firs time in a long time will have you laughing out of your seats.

13. The Family Stone

The holidays means family and friends coming together. The Family Stone is the perfect movie to make your heart warm and fuzzy, as well as a little sentimental.

Happy holidays, Stags!
