The 15 Stages of a Girl With FOMO

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

The only thing worse than missing a party is the fear of missing out, better known as “FOMO,” that comes with it. What if it is the party of the year? What if something crazy happens? What if Justin Bieber shows up to the party? All these questions more run through a girl with FOMO’s head giving us collegiettes major anxiety.

1. I have a project due and two tests on Monday, so there is no way I’m going out tonight.

2. Then the phone starts blowing up with texts from the squad discussing plans for the night.

3. No. No. No. I cannot go out tonight *puts phone on silent *

4. *Then you start to hear music blaring from the room next door*

5. Everyone is having fun and I’m stuck doing schoolwork.

6. What if this is the best pregame of the year? What if they play Bieber’s song all night?!?

7. It’s been a solid 20 minutes into doing work… time to procrastinate & check social media.

8. WORST MISTAKE EVER.

9. Checks Instagram: Everyone looks so cute and they are all taking adorable Instagram pictures. I could’ve had a good Instagram tonight. This could’ve been the time I got to 200 likes!

10. Checks Snapchat: Pregame Snapchat stories look insane! By far the best it has ever been. The townhouses look wild. They are still going and it is after midnight…miracle.

11. There are definitely so many hot guys out tonight. I could’ve met my future husband! I’ve accepted it; I’m going to be single for life.

12. Doing work is a complete waste of time because obviously I am too distracted about the party I’m not at.

13.  I might as well just go to bed so I don’t have to suffer anymore.

14. At breakfast the next morning everyone is talking about everything that happened and how wonderful this weekend was.

15. Never staying in again because FOMO!
