5 Holiday Party Dresses that Won’t Have You Looking Like a Disco Ball Mess

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

This season is all about holiday parties, making it one of the biggest times of the year to dress up in your ~holiday best~. For many of us, this means seasonal colors and all of the glitter and sequins we can find. While nothing screams “I’m festive” like dressing like a walking ornament, there’s a fine line between dressing to impress over the holidays and looking like a disco party gone wrong. Here are just a few of our favorite festive looks that will ensure you look like the life of the party, not a decoration, this season.

1. Lace You’ll Love

Lace is a classic holiday season pick and a perfect way to add texture and interest to your look without going over the top.

2. Crushin’ It

Crushed velvet is super trendy right now and the ultimate winter fabric. Not only is velvet warm and stylish, it looks formal in almost any silhouette and is perfect for holiday parties.

3. Shine Bright

If you simply can’t stay away from sequins, opt for an iridescent or colored pick that won’t look like a disco ball dressed you. Dark colors like burgundy and navy look ~gorg~ in sequins and aren’t blinding the in the same way silver sequins are.

4. Heavy Metal

Metal-inspired hues are a showstopper during the holidays. Go for gold, silver, or bronze for a modern twist on a shimmery party dress.

5. Silk that Shimmers

Instead of going for a full-on shiny look, choose a fabric like silk that has a natural shine to it and won’t blind your fellow party-goers. An embroidered pick, like this one, is ideal for a holiday season soiree.

Look to these suggestions to make sure that your party attire this season is less disco ball and more belle of the ball!
