5 Struggles of Looking For a Senior Year Beach House

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

One of the best things about Fairfield University is that we have the opportunity to live on the beach our senior year. What other schools’ students can say that? It is an awesome opportunity and a luxury. We aren’t those freshmen living in the quad anymore but adults about to live on the beach. However, the process of trying to secure a spot at one of those beach houses can be a real struggle for you and your squad. Here are five struggles you may encounter when embarking on your search:

1. Choosing What Friends To Live With

Living with your friends is awesome. But, living on the beach with your friends is a whole other ball game. Choosing the friends you want to live with can be a struggle because you may have friends in different groups including some who aren’t even sure if they’ll be living on the beach yet. Plus, there’s the added stress that friend groups change from year to year; someone you’re close with sophomore year you might drift away from when it comes time to live on the beach. Ahh the stresses of signing a lease two years in advance.

2. How to Divide Friend Groups

Now that you have finally chosen your fabulous besties to live with, there is only one other problem. The houses on the beach can only hold a certain number of people. Trying to figure out what friends are going to live in what house and hoping to get those houses right next to each other can cause major anxiety! Most beach houses only fit four people maximum…yikes.

3.  Location, Location, Location

Everyone wants to live as close as they can to the point! That is where all the action and exciting things are happening. Finding a house in the perfect location for you and your girls is vital and complicated because there may be many different opinions on what that “perfect” location is.

4. $$$

Cost is an extremely important factor when it comes to house hunting. We are college students and as much as we wish we were already making bank, we just aren’t. Finding a house that accommodates everyone and is affordable to all can be very tricky. One cannot only think of the cost of the rent but also living costs such as utilities, grocery costs, etc.

5. Making Decisions Two Years in Advance

This whole process of finding a house is both exciting and stressful. But, the real struggle is that these decisions are being made years in advance. We ask ourselves how do we know we will still be best friends with these girls, will I be the same person in two years, and how can I commit to something this far in advance when I don’t even know what I am doing for dinner tonight?  The unknown is scary and having to make a life altering decision like this in our college careers makes us all anxious.

Even though it is a strenuous process in finding the perfect beach house for our senior year, it might just be the best decision you make here at Fairfield!
