Last week self-proclaimed bad boy and author and relationship expert Steven Santagati discussed catcalling on CNN. To the astonishment of his fellow panelists Santagati asserted, “Ladies: You would not care if all these guys were hot… They would be bolstering your self-esteem, bolstering your ego, there is nothing more that a woman loves to hear than how pretty she is.”
Well on the contrary, I think every collegiette would agree that there are way more things a woman would like to hear besides how “pretty” they are, especially when it’s being aggressively yelled at them on the street. For instance…
1. Tell us we are intelligent. Who wouldn’t want to be told that all those years of algebraic calculations and Shakespearean sonnets have paid off and you have become a well educated and astute woman worthy of knowledgeable and insightful conversations.Â
2. Remind us how nice we are. Smiling at that random person you make eye contact with on the street becomes infinitely more difficult after a long day that consisted of not only bombing that stupid philosophy midterm but also dropping your red cupped Caramel Brule Latte in the Starbucks parking lot. Being told you are a good person is much more appreciated than being told we have a nice butt.
3. Offer us pizza. Because seriously, what girl doesn’t want to be offered pizza. Tell us you have pizza for us and we’ll love you forever.
4. Let us know our outfit is classy and stylish. Girls are known for taking plenty of time in the morning to assemble our outfit for the day, never mind the time spent shopping for the perfect shoes and accessories. Acknowledge we have a good sense of style and aren’t color blind, we appreciate it.
5. Tell us we have an amazing personality. Looks will fade but personalities are forever. Girls love to hear that they are fun to hang out with, are hilarious or are great at telling stories. What is better than knowing that people want to hang out with you because they enjoy your company and think your great? Nothing.
