As collegiettes, we love wearing our leg-lengthening, calf-defining and confidence boosting heels out on the weekend… except when they start hurting our feet. Once your feet are throbbing, your whole body starts aching with pain too, which can put a damper on your night. Here are 5 ways to make your feet (and the rest of yourself) happy.
1. Invest in your heels
Resist the temptation to buy cheap heels. Cheap shoes are often made of plastic and can pinch and dig into your feet. Avoid these and go for the more expensive pair. Not only are they a higher quality shoe, in the long run they will save you from a lot of pain.
2. Be picky with your heels
Don’t just throw on any pair of heels you have buried in your closet. Be smart enough to wear heels with an open or round toe, which provide more comfort than a narrow or pointed heel. Also heels with a strap or buckle can give you a pain free night with the added support.
3. Get acquainted with blister protectors
Moleskin will become your new best friend. Band-Aids tend to fall off by the end of the night, so try moleskin! It can be snipped and shaped to fit wherever you need it. It provides traction and molds to your feet turning any uncomfortable pair of heels into comfy ones. You can find it at any local drug store like Walgreens or CVS.
4. Don’t over wear
Do not wear heels every single weekend you go out. Give your feet a break and wear a cute pair of dressy flats or boots. By switching your shoes one weekend, you can allow your feet to rest and recover and be ready for the next weekend or occasion.
5. Take care of your feet
Moisturize and massage! The best way to avoid walking barefoot home from your weekends starts with taking care of your feet. Make sure you rub them out and are moisturizing them especially once the weather gets colder. And every once in a while, treat yourself to a relaxing pedicure!
