Flu season has unfortunately hit us hard this year. It is easy to get sick, especially living with roommates on a college campus. It has been the worst year for Connecticut with patients rapidly being sent to hospitals.
Here is what you should know:
-
The Department of Public Health released statistics showing that as of February 3rd, 1,360 patients were hospitalized.
-
Of these 1,360 patients, 63 people are reported to have passed away from the influenza.
-
52 people who died were 65 years or older, 6 were 50-64 years old, and 3 were 25-49 years of age. One person who died was between 19-24 years of age, and another person was between 5-17 years of age.
-
With 1,121 reported cases, Fairfield County is seen to have the most cases in CT.
-
This years’ flu is now being compared to the Swine flu that broke out in 2009.
-
Influenza activity is remaining high and widespread throughout Connecticut
Ladies, make sure to sneeze into your elbows rather than hands, don’t share food or drinks with your friends, wash your hands frequently, stay away from those who are sick, stay rested, and stay hydrated!
