Stags are back on campus; some with tans, some with new spring clothes and some with mixed emotions. The weather is warming up, but we are back in the rut of the semester. Midterms, internship applications, and papers upon papers fill our schedules. Spring break has come and gone, but we are so not over it. Here are the 7 phases of grieving the end of short-lived spring break:
1. DenialÂ
It can’t be the end of spring break. I mean, just yesterday I was in the car with my mom heading home singing along to Adele. I’m only back here as a formality. We don’t actually have to do work yet do we? Just let us have one more day of relaxation? Please?
2. Home SicknessÂ
It has been two days and you start hallucinating about the smells of your mom’s home cooked meals, the pitter-patter of your dogs paws against the floor, and the comfortable feeling of your own bed. When can I go home again?
3. DepressionÂ
It is rainy, you are sleep deprived, and all this work that is being thrown at you is getting you down. Why am I not back on that island with an ice cold drink in my hand?
4. Anxiety Kicks In
Due dates are approaching way too quickly. You have barely had time to adjust to being back on campus and you already have two midterms, a 7-page research paper, and more than 200 pages to read for all your classes combined. I am not going to break…
5. Mental Break Down
I’m tired. I’m hopeless. I’m broke.
6. Realization of Easter BreakÂ
Then, you finally realize that we have Easter break in about a week and a half. Another long weekend where you can procrastinate till you get back on campus!
7. AcceptanceÂ
It is all going to be okay. We have another break coming up, you are with your squad again, and it’s darty season. Even though you still feel tinges of the post-spring break blues, just know that it is one-step closer to a brighter, warmer summer!Â
