Suicide is a not an easy topic to discuss or comprehend. It’s something that people rather not talk about because it’s heavy, and while it’s heavy it is also very real. In 2012, suicide was the cause of death for 46,000 Americans. This means that every 12.6 minutes, someone lost his or her life to suicide.
Not everybody is affected by suicide, but everyone should take the time to learn about what they can do to help. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a non-profit organization that funds research, runs different activities and programs, and supports those who have lost someone to suicide. The AFSP is a leading organization in the fight against suicide, and one that hopes to continue its role in the lives of many Americans.
If you’d like to get involved in the fight against suicide, join Her Campus Fairfield for an Alex & Ani charity event this Tuesday, November 11 in Westport from 5 to 7 p.m. During that time, 15% of all sales will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. If you are unable to attend the event, you can call in an order (203.557.880) and proceeds from your phone order will go to the AFSP. We hope to see you there tomorrow night!
